The more I read of McGuire's work, the more I come to love and respect her skill and insight.
The premise is odd when first presented, but you're eased into it as you read, and the rules of being a ghost feel deeply settled in the world. The pace moves quick where it needs to, and lingers over - most - of the places you want it to, while letting some elements stay in the dim shadows.
The ending brought tears to my eyes, and they were well earned.
