It is slow going at first. The author is setting out a fairly dense, intertwined storyline. But the it starts to come together and move quickly. If you like espionage, this is a good one.

Maden bangs this one. Remember your World History. Circa 1939....Patience.....China will win regardless of the cost or means.

MIke Maden does a great job carrying on Tom Clancy's Ryan series. Clancy himself wrote great stories, but tended to get way into the weeds on technological things. Maden also tends to get into the weeds, but his weeds are generally around geopolitical matters. I prefer Maden's weeds, and some of them prompt some fact checking - like in this story, the economy of Poland - which checks out - so I learned something. The underlying story in this book also focuses one's attention on a critical, modern issue, in my opinion - cybersecurity. In this case, that word refers not to our individual cybersecurity, but to state security. And Maden's imagination (I hope that's what it is) presents some really horrifying possibilities. I do hope its all fiction. The story line is interesting, the characters are well developed, and there are lots of sub-story lines that make the whole thing both engaging and scary. It is a long book, but well worth the time to read it.
