This book by two economics researchers is written almost as a "how-to" manual for entrepreneurs and business executives, providing advice on how to succeed in business in the coming digital revolution, by making appropriate use of three major trends: increasing computational power, the power of "platforms" and the power of the "crowd" (and the extent to which these should replace or complement our reliance on minds, products and "the core" respectively). They provide easily understood definitions and examples of these three trends, including plenty of specific historical successes and failures, with some analysis to explain what works and what doesn't. While it doesn't go into the technology trends themselves in any detail, it does cover a great breadth of (mostly american) business cases, for which copious notes and references are provided. For those of us who are neither entrepreneurs nor business executives, the authors also touch on what this will mean for society more broadly.
