The brilliant, bespectacled daughter of a double marquess cares more for books than balls, for science than the season, and for laboratories than love. She's looking forward to marrying her simple fiance and living out her days quietly with her dogs and her scientific experiments. But before that, Pippa has two weeks to experience all the rest--fourteen days to research the exciting parts of life. It's not much time, and to do it right she needs a guide familiar with London's darker corners. She needs Cross, the clever, controlled partner in London's most exclusive gaming hell, with a carefully crafted reputation for wickedness. But reputations often hide the darkest secrets, and when the unconventional Pippa boldly propositions him, seeking science without emotion, she threatens all he works to protect.

My favorite of the Rule of Scoundrels series by MacLean. I loved Lady Phillippa's scientific way of approaching life. And the interplay between her and Cross, one of the owners of a notorious casino, is priceless. A very fun diversion if you are a regency fan.

I enjoyed this quite a bit, as I have enjoyed all of Sarah MacLean's books that I read, though I don't think this one grabbed me quiiiite as much as some of her others, and I have to detract half a star for the fact that there was a loose end that I didn't think was fully tied up. Still, the world in this series continues to be very well-drawn, and I'm excited for the remaining two books. I'd recommend MacLean's books for fans of light, fun regencies with sassy heroines and witty banter. Bonus points for a clever title, too.

Not a particularly believable couple in that the chemistry felt very forced and saccharin. The plot was ridiculous (really, Pippa's beloved older sister is unable to talk to her about sex? Really? I have four older sisters and any one of them would have - to varying degrees - been more than willing to talk to me about sex. I doubt that much has changed in sisterly relationships) and the heroine is not very sympathetic.

The resolution of the story felt rushed and incomplete. Pippa's "jilted" fiancé storyline was tied up much too neatly. And what exactly happened to the Earl's sister?!
