Gave up just past the halfway point because I disliked the 13 year old. I found his behavior more aggravating than heroic.

This is an excellent murder mystery by one of my favorite fiction writers whom I consider to be one of the best of my time. I just read it for the 2nd time because I learned AFTER reading (2018) "The Hush" by John Hart that "The Last Child" ((2009) was part I of the Johnny Merrimon story but the publisher delayed the sequel's publication.(???) SO--if you are new to John Hart or haven't read either of these books, do yourself a favor and read this book first and then "The Hush".

A well written fast paced book. A surprise ending that doesn't quite pull it off. Nonetheless, a complex, believable story.

John Hart is such a good writer of suspense!!! So many twists that made putting it down pretty much impossible!

This is a very good book - second of his that I have read and I plan to read the rest. This was a well developed mystery that unraveled until the very last page. Twists that you would never of thought of - with interesting characters that you have never met in other books. This is truly one of those books that will get you so deeply involved with that you WILL NOT PUT it down until you reach the last page.

Really enjoyed this book, first time I've read this author, so I'll be looking out for more. Some nice twists and turns as the story progressed, good read.

First time reading this author and hopefully not the last time. Found it to be quite riveting. Five stars from me.

This is the third book I've read by John Hart. They just keep getting better and better. Much easier to read than his first book, everything seemed to flow much better and the characters were believable. I am looking forward to reading his fourth book also (on hold).

I can't even remember how I found out about this book. Certainly not my usual fare and I opened it up with pretty low expectations. Wow, I will be reading more by John Hart. The reader runs the gamut of emotions and the plot is twisty, turny and keeps you turning the page. Doesn't happen often that I'm unable to guess the ending of a book, but certainly happened here.
