Journeying from England to Scotland, Lady Brenna has resigned herself to an arranged match with a highlander. But when a band of fierce, painted warriors captures her en route, she fearlessly meets their demand to instead marry their leader--her betrothed's sworn enemy--the quick-tempered Connor MacAlister.

Brenna harbors no illusions that her husband is in love with her, but their shared past gives her hope. Maybe the laird who once visited her father's castle and charmed her with a dazzling, unexpected smile remains underneath Connor's stern exterior.

But as she sets out to win the man whom she has come to adore, a legacy of revenge ensnares Brenna in a furious clan war--and only her faith in her new husband can save her...

I actually laughed out loud in several places. Wonderful characters and leaves you feeling sad to leave them.

I liked this book as much as I did the first in the series - "The Bride". You have to be a fan of this genre, and Garwood in particular, to enjoy this book. People who do not enjoy this type of book should check the genre before reading. Garwood writes regency romance as well as myster and her readers do not seem to like both.

Don't think I've read such a poorly written book before this. Repetitious to an extreme.

Most historical romances are fun to read just once, but I loved this one so much that I went out and bought it. You'll soon fall in love with Brenna and want to shake you head at Connor's inability to understand the female mind.

1119. Journeying from England to Scotland to wed a highlander, Lady Brenna had resigned herself to the arranged match. But when a band of fierce, painted warriors captured her en route, she fearlessly met their demand to marry their leader -- the quick-tempered laird Connor MacAlister. She couldn't know that her capture was merely the first act of vengeance against her betrothed, Connor's sworn enemy.

Brenna harbored no illusions that her husband was in love with her; after a hasty forest wedding, MacAlister assured her she could return home once she had borne him a son. But she could not deny that she had once proposed to MacAlister -- ten years ago, when she was just a child, and the visitor to her father's castle charmed her with his dazzling, unexpected smile. Now, as she sets out to win the brave chieftain whom she has come to adore, a legacy of revenge ensnares Brenna in a furious clan war -- and only her faith in her gallant hero can save her....
