If you love novels with character development and stunning writing, you will enjoy this. If you like plot-driven novels, this one likely won't keep you engaged.

Reading the only other comments I did not come to a conclusion anywhere near theirs. Maybe it's because I listened to the audio. Right off I was fascinated with the opening quote from Isaac Watts, yet I know nothing about him or his writing.

I found this tale totally absorbing, so vivid to my mind. Sadly, I found her other books totally uninteresting, no beauty in the language of her writing of this book. Some books are better the second time.

Intense character development.
Book left me feeling lost and detached from story.

Very depressing story of women who die in childbirth and men who can't move on with life. No real plot or action just sorrow.
