This is a wonderful story that completely grabbed me by going from 1950 to 2014 in developing the time line of what might have happen and what was happening in the town now. Every time I thought I had it figured out, I didn't. It takes a person on the journey of girls growing up in the 1950's and how they were treated to 2014 where so many lives come together to get the answers to so many questions. It is chilling and captivating. This is a must read.

I agree with the positive comments here, but I must add that the Audiobook is excellent. The narrator does a great job with pacing, tone, accents and other characters' voices. When paired with a spooky ambient track, this Audiobook really comes to life.

A tale about four girls in the 1950's that live in a boarding school called Idlewild that is thought to be haunted, and a journalist in 2014....this book has mystery, intrigue and crime drama with a side of creepy haunted buildings

I loved this book. This is the spooky, eerie, ghost story I was looking for. I am a huge lover of ghost stories and ghost movies so this was just the perfect cup of tea I was longing for. The prologue peaks your interest in just the right way and leaves an impression on your mind as you meet Fiona, Jamie, Malcolm, Katie, Sonia, Cee Cee, and Roberta. I just cannot rave about this book enough. The atmosphere is described in wonderful detail, the abandoned school comes to life in your imagination, and the characters have a real feel to them as if they really do exist. This is a story that you will enjoy from start to finish and one that concludes in a beautiful way.

I've read a few books by Simone St. James and I keep coming back to them because of her ability to create a spooky, ghost-filled atmosphere. Her books so far have been a bit uneven in terms of the stories they tell, but I'm happy to say "The Broken Girls" has a delightfully creepy atmosphere AND a pretty decent story.

You do have to be willing to suspend your disbelief some as some points of the story come together in ways that don't really seem feasible. I think it would have been interesting to perhaps see some of what happened from the perspective of the "bad guy" because there were holes as to what set certain events in motion that were kind of annoying if you sit and think about them too much. But looking past that weakness, I still really enjoyed the book every time I picked it up.

It's a great rainy day, hot cuppa, and candles burning kind of read, which is generally my favorite way to spend an afternoon. I look forward to seeing what else St. James puts out in the future.

Old murders and old ghosts make for one fantastic novel in The Broken Girls. I'm not usually one for ghost/paranormal stories. But in Simone St. James' capable hands, that particular story line adds intrigue even as it ties seamlessly into the other story threads for a well-written, captivating book.

Best book I've read in a while. Can't wait to get her other books.

Spooky and fascinating! An exciting mystery across generations, combined with an eery ghost story. I LOVED reading this book! I’m really sad I've finished it. Definitely one of my favourite reads so far this year.

There was a creepiness to parts of the story that I enjoyed but these moments didn’t advance, or really have much to do with, the actual plot. To me, this was poorly written and included minimal character or story development. Very disappointing.

Well written story. One you can't guess the twists in it.
