Really enjoyed this film! Unlike anything I've ever seen before.

Great movie. Much different than the directors last movie Whiplash (also a great movie).

I'm very sad and surprised that I can not view the specific dvd that was lent to me because it was "disc error". I wish somebody who borrowed it before me could have reported that the dvd was broken. That way it could be taken out of from the circulation.

The music was okay but I absolutely hated the ending.

Bittersweet, romantic film reminiscent of the Hollywood musicals of the 60's. Musicals aren't for everyone, and I'm not a big fan myself, but I enjoyed this. Well acted and the talented leads hold their own.

When they are good they are very, very good and when they are bad they are boring. The script almost overpowers the music. The characters are talented egos without personality except when there is music and then they shine brightly. Musicals are escapist by nature, Hollywood and the Chinese money men need to learn why musicals are so rare anymore, they are expensive and require a lot of very talented egotistical individuals to produce.

An ode to classic musicals that clearly shows its love for the genre that inspired it, while it still manages to bring freshness to the story of a jazz pianist and an aspiring actress who cross paths in Los Angeles, in pursuit of their dreams. I loved all of the elements that self-consciously evoked some of my favorite classic musicals--that "dream sequence!"--and I think a lot of the appeal of this movie is thanks to the nostalgic tone throughout. Great chemistry between characters, lovely costumes, and impressive piano-playing by Gosling, who apparently had never played piano before this movie--wow!

I just expected so much more...

I liked it but I didn't love it. Some catchy tunes, I really liked the song Emma Stone sings for her audition. Some of the other themes I enjoyed as well.

A real dud. Painful for me to watch. Right up there with MR. HOLLAND'S OPUS. I began to wonder whether it was the intention of the director to celebrate grating superficiality. Was LA LA LAND a slick put down of Hollywood? Well at least we know Emma Stone can dance, better than Ryan Gosling at least. I consider myself a Ryan Gosling fan, and i have to say his performance borders the embarrassing.

Quite a few in IMDb already but here is one not there -- Audition (The Fools Who Dream)

Stone's aunt P1 of 2:

My aunt used lived in Paris.
I remember, she used to come home and tell us...
These stories about being abroad and...
I remember she told us that she jumped into the river once...
She smiled...
Leapt ...
Without looking
And tumbled into...
The Seine
The water was freezing
She spent a month sneezing
But said she would do it again
Here's to the ones who dream
Foolish as they may seem
Here's to the hearts that ache
Here's to the mess we made
She captured a feeling Sky with no ceilling

Stone's aunt P2 of 2:

The sunset inside a frame
She lived in her liquor And died with a flicker
I'll always remember the flame
Here's to the ones who dream
Foolish as they may seem
Here's to the hearts that ache
Here's to the mess we made
She told me...
"A bit of madeness is key"
"To give us new colors to see"
"Who knows where it will lead us?"
"And that's why they need us"
Bring on the rebels
The ripples from pebbles
The painters, and poets, and plays
And here's to the fools who dream
Crazy as they may seem
Here's to the hearts that break
Here's to the mess we made
I trace it all back to then
Her, and the snow, and the Seine
Smiling trough it
She said she'd do it
