The New York Times bestselling author of the Tradd Street novels explores a Southern family's buried history, which will change the life of the woman who unearths it, secret by shattering secret.

Two years after the death of her husband, Merritt Heyward receives unexpected news--Cal's family home in Beaufort, South Carolina, bequeathed by his reclusive grandmother, now belongs to Merritt.

In Beaufort, the secrets of Cal's unspoken-of past reside among the pluff mud and jasmine of the ancestral Heyward home on the Bluff. This unknown legacy, now Merritt's, will change and define her as she navigates her new life--a life complicated by the arrival of her too young stepmother and ten-year-old half brother.

Soon, in this house of strangers, Merritt is forced into unraveling the Heyward family past as she faces her own fears and finds the healing she needs in the salt air of the Lowcountry.

The Sound of Glass is a great book to show the inner strength of women. It is the story of Merritt, who moved from Maine to South Carolina. She moves into a home that was left to her late husband. Also in the story are Loralee, her father's widow, and Loralee's sone Owen, as well as Gibbs- Merritt's brother in law. It has several plots.
Karen White is a great storyteller. The book has tangled secrets, a mystery, a crime, a romance, and eventually a healing. It has great character development. It made me want to read other books by her.

Karen White is a masterful storyteller, and The Sound of Glass is no exception to her past successes with its tale of tangled secrets, mysteries, crime, guilt and eventual healing.
I enjoyed both the contemporary and historical story lines featured in the novel, and loved the characters. The setting, South Carolina's beautiful coast near Beaufort, provided a superb backdrop for the story, and the tale of complex relationships, mystery and a little romance make this an ideal candidate for holiday and beach reading.

This was my third Karen White book to read. Absolutely loved it......but I am a romantic at heart, and enjoy happy endings.

Mediocre. Could have easily quit it half-way through and unfortunately cannot say I was glad I didn't. Story about a New England woman who inherits house in SC.
