Crucial and most important to note in a character study of Mailer that he worked industriously to get a convicted murderer an early release, then on the very first night out of jail, during a meal Normal Mailer took the ex-convict to, he gets into a nonsensical argument with a waiter - - and murders him! So Normal Mailer excels at getting innocents murdered, both figuratively and literally!
