Holmes and Houdini fans alike will probably be unimpressed with this short read. It's riddled with distracting factual errors and wonky characterization which at times was also distracting; Holmes suggests sarcastically at one point that Houdini's stage illusions were aided "by elves."
The plot was predictable and unsatisfying and the twists were so outlandish that they were beyond belief.
I would have liked this novel to be so much better than it was, after all Houdini and Holmes is a great combination in theory. Alternatively, I would have liked this novel to be worse than it stands, because then I might have gotten a laugh out of it.
