When Arlen Wagner awakens on a train one hot Florida night and sees death's telltale sign in the eyes of his fellow passengers, he tries to warn them. Only 19-year-old Paul Brickhill believes him, and the two abandon the train, hoping to escape certain death. They continue south, but are soon stranded at the Cypress House--an isolated Gulf Coast boarding house run by the beautiful Rebecca Cady--directly in the path of an approaching hurricane. But the storm isn't the only approaching danger.

I got this as a audio book for a road trip. It was interesting enough. It's based in the 1930's about a man who has some psychic ability; however, that is not really what the story focuses on. The story is more about his encounter with corrupt law enforcement in a FL town. He unexpectedly becomes involved in this scenario, and has to find a way to make things right along with those who are generally innocent but are forced to submit to the corruption. His psychic abilities of knowing who is about to die and more, become more into play toward the end of the story. It did get a little tiresome at times though when the characters would discuss at exhaustive lengths several options of how to fix their problems, and why or why not they shouldn't choose one option as opposed to another. I wished they would just get on with whatever it was they were going to do rather than talking about it forever. However, both my husband and I did generally enjoy the story.
