This is an incredible study of how politicians and media worked in concert to attempt a change of the underlying self image of Canadians. Well written, with a clear progression of the intent and implementation, Richler shows the "Harper Government" strove to destroy the 'small L' liberal Canadian image that is based based on recognition of our favored place in the world, generosity and care and attention for human rights. Often a frightening read, it ends in a hopeful note, at least for those of us who still see the Canadian role as one of supporting the building of peaceful solutions and respecting the rights of other countries and persons over the rights of corporate and business interests - when they diverge from the common good.
