Sometimes I wish that she'd just leave me in peace . . .

Psychologist Evi has taken on a new patient: a grieving mother who lost her daughter in a fire two years ago - but who is convinced her little girl is still alive.

Meanwhile, the new vicar in town is not being to feel welcome. Disturbing events seem designed to scare him away.

And all the while, a young boy keeps seeing a solitary girl playing among the graves in the churchyard.

But who is she, and what is she trying to tell him?

I really enjoyed this book - it was well-written enough that I wanted to pick it up even if it was a tiny bit confusing with all the characters... the 4.5 stars (rather than 5) reflects the last 30 pages but I would recommend it for sure!

I was surprised at how disappointed I was in this book given the enthusiastic reviews, and the well-known author. The plot extremely complicated plot clunks and thunks along, and most of the peripheral characters, including the (multiple) villains are not well written and seem like cardboard placeholders. And throughout the book there is one obvious, glaring suspect as the murderer, so any mystery reader knows from the very beginning that she cannot possibly be the murderer, and she's not. I may try another book by this author, hoping for better.

I have yet to be disappointed in an S. J. Bolton book! Interesting story which has spirits, dead and missing children. A grave for one that spews out the remains of three children that sets the town into an attempt to discover what happened to the two additional children, while another child goes missing. This tale leads you in several directions before coming to the shocking conclusion. There is no one left unaffected by this chilling tale, least of all the reader who I am sure never came up with the ending before it was laid out on the final pages.

I very much enjoyed this book. A unique story that misleads you with references to spirits but turns into murder by humans. Children in this small town in England are murdered by falling from heights and the new parson becomes involved in ways he never imagined.

This is my 2nd SJ Bolton novel. I was very impressed with my first read, and this one does not disappoint. I'm very particular about what I read, and often read a couple of chapters of a mystery novel and abandon it because it is not good enough. This author has me panting to gobble up all her books, pronto!

When a new vicar comes to town he meets up with some odd happenings, some odd people and some very odd old traditions. Little girls from the town have been dying or disappearing but what is behind it? A disturbed mother? Some kind of sprite that may be less than human? And what is up with these weird old traditions? A good mystery, good characters and lots of creepy stuff abound. Loved this book.

"The Fletchers should have known better than to move next to a graveyard, particularly one in the English village of Heptonclough, where the villagers slaughter their livestock in an annual "blood harvest" ritual... and where several young girls have been killed. Soon, ten-year-old Tom Fletcher and his younger brother report strange sightings, their toddler sister narrowly escapes an attempt on her life, and blood is exchanged for communion wine at the church (which seems to be the centre of all sorts of creepy stuff). With Gothic undertones, Blood Harvest "excels at summoning up the claustrophobic atmosphere of rural village life" (The Guardian)." Thrillers and Suspense January 2014 newsletter

Another great book from S.J. Bolton. Great read.

S J Bolton is now one of my favorite contemporary writers. Blood Harvest is every bit as exciting as its title. Somewhere around page 145 I guessed where the book is headed -- the person responsible for, and the motive behind, the murders. However, the climax is still thrilling and the ending satistfying. Like Now You See Me, Blood Harvest deals with uncomfortable situations and raises difficult questions, so it goes beyond mere "suspense thriller."
