The movie is a crock! The "case" it makes has more holes than a spaghetti strainer. Don't get me wrong; I suspect that there was a real Jesus and that he was a mystic of the caliber of the Buddha and other great mystics. Unfortunately, his historicity is impossible to prove.

The so-called "evidence" presented in this movie is all circumstantial and based on hearsay. The logic of the argument presented in the movie is sloppy to the extent of rendering it worse than worthless. This is the main difference between myself and a fundamentalist Christians---I respect Jesus and believe in his mystical stature because his wisdom is reflective of a profound degree of spiritual enlightenment, compared to other mystics.

Fundamentalists claim to have faith, but they seem to need factual evidence in order to believe; otherwise why would they manufacture it out of such flimsy logic? If we evaluate Jesus only on the basis of provable fact, he is diminished in the process, because the evidence and the arguments are so poor.

However, if we compare him to other great mystics, his awareness is of a very high magnitude. Fundamentalists are doing Jesus no favors in this movie, because they essentially put Jesus on top of a pile of blatant exaggerations and outright lies. And that's a pity. Jesus deserves better. The wisdom of his insights are self-evident. The *process* of this movie is like a con artist trying to pass off a piece of dung as a piece of gold, and Jesus is diminished in that process.

Fortunately there is another way to evaluate Jesus where he shines like gold, and that's by comparing his views to the views of other comparable mystics, spiritual philosophers, and spiritual traditions. In that context he comes off well. In fact Jesus was a primary influence of Mahatma Gandhi, who probably came closest to having the impact of Jesus of any person in the 20th century. I think that's because he understood Jesus that much better than most people. Compared to Gandhi, fundamentalists don't don't seem to understand Jesus at all.

This yr 2007 on Strobel is the documentary story/presentation. Based on his popular life story written in the book The Case for Christ, autobiography of Strobel, first published yr 1998

This dvd movie is the 1980's setting, dramatization of Strobel's search for the meaning of Christianity, as explained by some expert scholars, flowing thru the movie story.
Slow moving, but of interest.

Disappointingly, the 'experts' that Strobel consults to confirm/deny the existence of Jesus as Christ, are primariliy from institutions, seminars that believe in a literal reading of the Bible. They gloss over the inconsistencies that run all throughout the four canonical gospels. Though this 'documentary' makes for a feel good "I was an aetheist and now I believe" story, the 'evidence' he cites is biased, at best.
