What an awful movie. I enjoyed the scenery but little else. The story needs some serious editing and tweaking. Was expecting a little more profound at the end but only got a slap in the face!! Don’t bother.

Some lovely vistas of Cobh, County Cork, Ireland.
Not a bad little picture ... but something was missing; it left me unsatisfied.

Ciaran Hinds plays a woodworking teacher who has lost his wife to cancer. He has been awaking recently either after having dreamed of being with apparitions or has actually seen the apparitions. This was a nice cross between a ghost story and a story about the grieving process of losing a loved one. You actually are not sure what is real, just like when you wake up after what appeared to be a dream so real.

I see a wide variety of comments and ratings for this one. I thought it was very good and enjoyed watching it. Maybe it's one of those ones you appreciate more if you're over 50 and don't mind a slower-paced movie with older characters who are intriguing and have depth.

Excruciatingly slow, painfully senseless, this movie will leave you with the feeling that you missed precious 88 minutes of your own life watching it--no matter how old you are. I kept expecting something interesting would happen and my hopes were never fulfilled. The director had a very interesting story, but lost his way. Do not recommend.

I couldn't get into this movie, it moved at a snails pace throughout the entire thing. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone unless your looking for something to bore you to death.

Not worth the time it takes to check it out. So slow. I had to stop watching after 25 min. A true waste of money.

A complete waste of 88 minutes. Having seen the trailer, I was under the distressingly misleading impression that this would be an intense horror film with some romance on the side. By the end of the film, I felt cheated and used, since nothing ever got explained and the handful of truly frightening scenes were separated by excruciatingly pointless "character development". I could go on and on, but I'll end this by recommending fellow horror junkies to just skip this and get The Ring instead.

A lyrical, original, mature romance, with a few ghosts on the side, set in the interesting contemporary milieu of a fictional literature festival in Cobh, County Cork. Like Irish people themselves, its supernatural side is complex and raises more questions than answers. Its more important romantic plot evolves in a tender, contemplative, artistic, understated--and equally quintessentially Irish--manner. This film marks a first promising collaboration between two of Ireland's leading writers, Billy Roche and Conor McPherson, who co-authored the screenplay, based on a short story from Roche's recently published collection "Tales From Rainwater Pond". (McPherson also directed.) Luscious piano and choral music by Fionnuala Ní Chiosáin throughout. And in his role as the main character, Ciarán Hinds embodies many of the qualities that make Irish guys so attractive. In all, a quiet, atmospheric gem of a movie.

Skip It - The Eclipse (2009) 88 min. Painfully dull film about a man who lost his wife only to begin seeing her when a horror writer comes to town. The film focuses on the pain of a surviving spouse but unfortunately, the characters are so bland and uninspiring. Aidan Quinn, the novelist, plays the most pathetic character I've seen on film - he's married and begs a former affairee to begin relations all over again. The only interesting part of the film was a fist fight that was choreographed to be believable - the characters show that their fists actually hurt after landing a punch (is this enough to sit through an hour and a half of film? Noooooooooo).
