Lola is a badly behaved shrew (literally). She throws tantrums at every turn and her family gives her what she wants. One day, cousin Lester comes to visit. He is an equally badly behaved shrew. He and Lola scream and yell at each other trying to get what they want, but neither gives in. They become hungry and exhausted from the yelling. Finally, Lola comes up with an idea. She and Lester begin negotiating so each one gets their way a little bit. After Lester goes home, Lola is better behaved since she realizes what she is arguing about is not worth the fight.

The illustrations in this book are colorful, fun and very busy. There is a lot to look at so young children can look again and again at the pages. The language is a bit wordy for a children's book and sometimes the author uses big words like "retorted."

The message is good--you enjoy life so much more when you are not yelling, screaming and throwing a fit about every little thing.

This book is advertized for grades preschool-3. I think the writing style and story maturity is more appropriate for grades 1-3.
