It's been a rough few years for CIA agent John Wells. Between the undercover work, the attack on the United States, and the Chinese plot that could have led to war, Wells is exhausted. But he knows he has no time for that. He has made too many enemies. Nevertheless, before the day is over, several people will be dead or severely injured, his fiancee among them, and Wells will be a man possessed.

The Silent Man is the third in a series of novels featuring CIA agent John Wells. This entry begins with the theft of two nuclear weapons from Russia by terrorists who want to punish the USA. As the result of a failed assassination attempt Wells gets on the terrorists’ trail. The detective portion of the story is interesting as the CIA tracks down companies, ships, and people. The climax is brief and less spectacular than the novel’s predecessors. The Silent Man is overly long and while a good entry doesn’t meet the standards of the previous two books in the series.

I began reading the John Wells series of books last month. I had read The Shadow Patrol cuz I needed a book to read and my husband had just finished that one. I was hooked, so I went back and started at the beginning with The Faithful Spy. Tonight I finished The Silent Man - wow. It was all the more frightening cuz I believe there are people in the world who hate America so much that they would detonate a nuclear weapon here. I can't wait to begin The Midnight House tomorrow. Awesome books.

This book was good. I didn't read the prior books in this series, but didn't feel I missed out on anything by jumping in here. We really do take our safety here in the US for granted, and it was rather frightening to think about a nuclear bomb being assembled and going off here in our country. Of course in the story this terrorist plot is thwarted.
