This stands comparison with "American Sniper" in its treatment of the complexities of our involvement in Iraq. Based on real-life stories, the script forces its characters to choose under impossible conditions. Some very good performances by a young cast.

The commentary by the director is highly recommended.

The 1st 15 minutes EXCELLENT really good action scenes. the rest of the movie was sort of a drag. Very predictable.

Stop-Loss is a procedure to force soldiers into serving an extra tour of duty. Soldiers in this film suffer physical wounds (loss of limbs, loss of sight, and loss of life) and mental wounds (suicide, guilt, nightmares, etc.) from serving one too many tours. Some soldiers actually volunteer for one too many tours when they realize that combat life is the only thing they are good at. The neo-cons who love every war that they can start do not want you to see this film. War is hell and this film is not for the chicken-hawk.

trcooper says: "THIS movie was so real, it made me realize just what war is about & what our young men are fighting against, including the USA. I wish everyone could see it and be viewed in churces, as well as congress."

I will give this movie three stars. The acting is pretty good (JGL was great, as is the always watchable Abbie Cornish). The dialogue, direction and writing alright. Overall, I've seen better movies about combat and war, specifically The Hurt Locker and Kelly's Heros.

This is another political war movie, but it's got a strong cast and a solid script which does a good job of drawing the viewer in. Yes, it does center around the negative aspects of war, but it also eventually shows the value of serving in the army and fighting for freedom overseas. Not the best movie ever made, but worth a watch if you enjoy these types of films.

Great movie, I find it refreshing to see a movie about the military that doesn't look like a recruitment commercial. "Stop-Loss" definitely offers a different look at how soldiers' lives are effected by what they do and see in battle, and how the cope (or don't cope) with it. Anyone who is thinking about joining the military should see this before they do.

A fantastic story of friendship that touches the heart and leaves you wondering "what would I have done?" spectacular performances by all the actors, especially Joseph Gordon-Levitt, a largely unsung hero in the world of Hollywood
