Originally from Newport News, Virginia - Ella Jane Fitzgerald (born April 25, 1917) was a very gifted African-American jazz singer who was often referred to as the First Lady of Song, Queen of Jazz and Lady Ella. She was noted for her exceptional purity of tone, impeccable diction, phrasing and intonation, and a "horn-like" improvisational ability, particularly in her scat singing.
This "Swinging Christmas" CD contains 18 tracks in all which were recorded by Ella (along with the Frank DeVol Orchestra) in 1960. How can you possibly go wrong with the sensational Ella singing such familiar, old Christmas standards as Jingle Bells, Winter Wonderland, and Santa Claus Is Coming To Town (to name but a few)?.... *Note* - (Sad to say) - On June 15, 1996 - Ella Fitzgerald (79 at the time) died from congestive heart failure brought on by the ill-effects of diabetes.
"Ella Wishes You a Swinging Christmas" is just what the doctor ordered to brighten the holidays. As the best female vocalist I can think of, she does a wonderful job on all the Christmas standards. Give her a chance to warm your heart with "Frosty the Snowman" and "White Christmas!
