This series is great, and has historically accurate as you would expect FICTION to be. It is an alternate Japan, don't expect to find samurai from history here, but if you want a great detective novel and you are tired of the modern detective, or sherlock holmes ripoffs, this book is for you. The series is long and quite awesome, although I would have to say Laura Joh Rowland's writing is improving over time.

Because I have watched quite a few Japanese historical dramas, I could not help finding inaccuracies of how the author portrayed the history of the Japanese culture.
Much though I want to give this book a chance, I could not finish it after the first few pages... My apologies to the author.

Sano Ichiro is the son of a Samurai. The series tells of Sano's journey from lowly foot patrol to chief inspector. Along the way he meets and befriends outcasts, encounters many roadblocks, challenges, class bias, and jealous foes. I enjoy reading all of The Sano Ichiro detective series by Ms. Rowland. Reading her books brings me back to my childhood. Reading her books is like watching those old Japanese samurai/detective t.v. Series in my head.
