Did not notice that this movie is in a foreign language. We will not sit and read the conversation so after 5 minuets we turned it off.

good movie based on Danish resistance during WWII, focuses on 2 assassins that go by the code names Flame and Citron.
It kept me interested wondering who could be trusted, there seemed to be a lot of double agent deals going on.

This is a 2008 Danish war-time drama directed by Ole Christian Madsen.
It is a fictionalized account based on historical events during the Nazi occupation of Denmark in World War II.
It dipicts war as a complicated experience that goes beyond a good-versus-evil dichotomy.
It also explores themes of love, betrayal, moral dilemma and the emotional aspects of relationships.
With the excellent performances of the major actors, the film will give you a lot of thought-provoking moments.

Engaging film. The acting was superb. The story was a tad confusing and rushed at the very end (due to lengthy earlier scenes, is my guess). It does make you read up on them though.

Saw this over six months ago and it still sticks in my head as one of the most depressing movies I have ever seen in a good long while. The truth of being a resistance fighter is not knowing who to trust, and questioning all. There are also a lot of events in this film to stretch anyone's credulity, like would you really not disguise yourself, walk down the street with impunity with your flaming red hair, if you are known for it? It you like big drama, action including a very dramatic ending, and lots of intrigue then this film is for you.

A film that explores the harsh realities behind wartime heroism, often glossed over. Thure Lindhardt and Mads Mikkelsen are exceptional. For those complaining about the ending, specifically Citron's last stand, it actually happened, so I don't understand labeling it "die hard" or unrealistic. In fact, it was likely even more intense than depicted. SPOILER: He killed 11 German soldiers before they set fire to the safe house to drive him outside, and they shot him when he escaped the flames.

In occupied Denmark during WWII an underground organization of partisans played a key role in the assassination of several key nazi leaders and Danish collaborators. This film is based on the exploits of two such men, nicknamed Flame and Citron. Rather than a straightforward war epic filled with courageous deeds, Madsen takes a much bleaker approach showing the darkness that can dwell even in the hearts of those we call heroes. Both men are dealing with their own personal demons and the endless killings, no matter how justified, begin to take their toll. Furthermore they begin to suspect that those responsible for deciding who is to be “liquidated” may have ulterior motives of their own. “Flame and Citron” has a definite noirish feel to it with its dark lighting, sexy dames and tangled plot filled with double-crosses and false leads....and therein lies its weakness. The convoluted storyline drags the film down considerably and a tacked on love story just seems to get in the way. Furthermore, after watching scene after scene of mob-style shootouts you begin to feel that you are watching a Scandinavian version of “The Godfather”. Finally, the climactic gun battle towards the end stretches the limits of believability past the breaking point. A sincere effort but not all that good.

The title characters became heroes in Denmark for their actions during the War. This movie was interesting and kept me on my toes. At one point you wonder, who's spying on whom? The acting is very good, and as always, Mads Mikkelsen is captivating.

Tense story about the spiritual cost of terrorism, even in a just war. There is plenty of action, but the tone is closer to LeCarre than Ludlum. The fact-based story is too complex to fit easily into a movie, and many plot points and characters fall by the wayside (what happened to the female spy, for instance?) Oddly, although the film looks great, and is apparently one of the most expensive Danish films ever made, modern chain link fences and lamp posts are visible. Still, the actors, especially Thure Lindhardt and Mads Mikkelsen, will keep you on the edge of your seat.
