Fair – Why Did I Get Married? (2007) 111 min. Though Tyler Perry’s films are generally panned by the consensus of American movie critics, there’s something special that works through these films. The film leans on the merits of spirituality (specifically, Christianity) as a means to a better life, a usual theme in most Tyler Perry pictures. In this film, the focus is on marriage and how the couples featured have to endure their trials and tribulations. Where this film fails is in the delivery of the resolutions of each of the relationships. The build-up to introduce the issues of each marriage is methodically explained – the conclusions seem hurried. Notable performances include Jill Scott as Sheila and Tara Smith as Angela. Apparently, a sequel is on its way in 2010.
