This is one of my all time favorite books. I am blown away by how this brilliant author takes blame out of the game, explaining so well how different situations lead to hurt that causes different effects. I learned so much from these true stories retold with so much respect for everyone's unique situation.

This book is riveting (I found it hard to put down) & very moving. The writing itself is extremely accomplished, with scientific concepts explained clearly and in context; it allows you to think beyond the emotions you feel when reading each story. Warning: you may find yourself recommending this book to everybody you know.

This book will bring tears to your eyes, guaranteed. It will also open your heart to those children in your life you find most difficult. If you work with children, and find some hard to like, let alone love, than this book will show you just why those are the children that need your love more than anyone. I beg you to read this book, it could change a child's life, as well as your own.

This book was profoundly informative, Engaging and insightful. I listened to it on audiobook. This Dr. worked with children from a place of compassion, intelligence and understanding, shared with authenticty and clarity. He approached his young clients and their parents with compassion and understantding, in the most natural way but could be considered revolutionary compared to many conventional models of the times. As someone interested in human development for many years, I still learned so much from this book and was deeply touched by these stories as well as his appraoch to healing trauma and the healthy develpoment of the human brain during those crucial first few years. i appreciated how he never blamed the perpetrator nor sensationalized the horrific events nor avoided the facts of what happened. I found this book deeply moving and inspiring. That healing childhood trauma is very possible and the great power we have to infulence the development of the young and older people in our lives. Incredible wisdom and depth within these words.

An amazing doctor whose compassion and insight, coupled with his strong scientific background, demonstrates how and why children who are damaged emotionally early in life can re-train their brains to compensate. The stories of individual children are heart-breaking, but Dr. Perry demonstrates how the actions taken by his team can result in saving the child, their family and society as a whole. A very, very good book for anyone interested in child development, but also for anyone interested in why some people raised in horrifying circumstances live good solid lives and others turn to violent crime or to repeating the actions perpetrated on them. The compassion and lack of ego on the part of Dr. Perry are inspiring.
