Soon to be a major motion picture--produced by Guillermo del Toro and directed by J.A. Bayona
REMAIN CALM DO NOT PANIC TAKE SHELTER WAIT FOR FURTHER INSTRUCTIONS THE SITUATION IS UNDER CONTROL Society is rocked by a sudden increase in the number of violent assaults on individuals. Christened 'Haters' by the media, the attackers strike without warning, killing all who cross their path. The assaults are brutal, remorseless and extreme: within seconds, normally rational, self-controlled people become frenzied, vicious killers. There are no apparent links as a hundred random attacks become a thousand, then hundreds of thousands. Everyone, irrespective of gender, age, race or any other difference, has the potential to become a victim - or a Hater. People are afraid to go to work, afraid to leave their homes and, increasingly, afraid that at any moment their friends, even their closest family, could turn on them with ultra violent intent. Waking up each morning, no matter how well defended, everyone must now consider the fact that by the end of the day, they might be dead. Or perhaps worse, become a killer themselves. As the status quo shifts, ATTACK FIRST, ASK QUESTIONS LATER becomes the order of the day... only, the answers might be much different than what you expect....
In the tradition of H. G. Wells and Richard Matheson, Hater is one man's story of his place in a world gone mad-- a world infected with fear, violence, and HATE.

Good Book. A real eye-opener with some devastating moments. It left me feeling grateful for what I have now but at the same time questioning humanity and realizing we all have hate and pure animal aggression inside us. It's scary to think of
I've been waiting ages for this book from my local library. It has a huge wait list. Definitely a disappointment for someone who loves a great zombie book like myself. Haters are not zombies. I was reluctant to give it 3 stars but I can see how other readers would enjoy the build up of suspense.
It was not thrilling as I would have hoped. It was painful dealing with the constant, never-ending cluelessness of the characters. They are all dull, including the protagonist. I agree with the guy below me. Haters are not zombies.
if you are married with children with a dead-end job as a working stiff, you'll identify with the main character without too much difficulty and as such, how he views and deals with a growing catastrophe will be compelling enough to have you read through this rather quickly.
So far though, looking at other comments, I don't understand the talk of zombies. I'm almost finished and there hasn't been a single zombie in this story unless zombie has a new definition. the apocolyptic event seems more to be a psychological epidemic.
I enjoyed the premise of the story being told through the eyes of the Zombie.
Just finished my first book for the month of May, [Hater]. I picked it up at the bookstore yesterday while trading in some used books. I was SO excited. It had a fantastic synopsis on the back describing rampant societal paranoia and comparing it to Richard Matheson. It made me think of [I Am Legend] and the way that at the end you realize the "hero" is only a hero depending on your perspective and maybe HE is the real monster. Needless to say I found [Hater] not to be anything like that. The protagonist is such a miserable spineless half-assed failure that I found it impossible to relate to or even care about him, the premise so ill explained or plausible as to disallow me suspending my disbelief ( and this is a stretch for somebody half looking forward to wielding a 9-iron during the "Zompocalypse") and the ending an apparent homage to every 13 year old boys love of video games and explosions that I nearly threw the book down in disgust. There goes 4 hours of my life I'll never get back.
Not a big Zombie fan, but I tried this book on a suggestion of a friend. I couldn't put it down. The way the David Moody moves the story between the rising "hate" is riveting. I can't wait for the rest of the third book in the trilogy to come out.
A great read! Kept me guessing through out the novel; i loved the horrifying reality of Hater's world
I really didn't know what to expect from this author, but I was suprised at the almost chilling feel of fear of being around too many people. I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the series tonight.
