List - You got: Thrillers!
SPL_Shauna Jul 19, 2017

This is the book that sold me on thrillers. It was originally published just as I graduated library school, and I only read it because I felt I needed to for work. The first 100 pages didn't do much for me, but then it took off like a shot. This wound up being one of my favourite series ever; I a... Read More »

Absolutely loved it. Slow to begin with, the second half of the book just kept me up all night.

I love this book! The first 150 pages were boring but once you power through those pages, it gets much better and more suspenseful.

This is easily one of my favourite books of all time. A brick of a book, I read it in no time at all. It is rich in detail; which may not appeal to everyone, but it had so many elements that I loved that the detail just served to better paint the picture. Murder mystery, police procedural, political commentary, twisted love story, abusive relationships...what an intriguing novel.

I have never said this before but I think I enjoyed the movie better. I'm talking about the original not this American rubbish. Speaking of American rubbish, can you believe our president is a coked up narcissistic, reality TV star who tweets every time his feelings are hurt or he has a paranoid delusion? I'm so embarrassed that I refuse to travel abroad anymore sans my crisp, white Prada shirt and fake Italian accent.

Such a thrilling and intense piece of work. I was gripping the book the entire time!

I had put off reading this book for some time. Maybe this time the timing was right as I got through it quickly. Unlike other reviews, I did not find it slow at the beginning as I knew that it was setting up the novel. It was a good read. Not something that I would re-read but worthwhile.

I was late to the table on this trilogy. i few years ago I finally watched the movies and gobbled up the books.
The violence was brutal but I loved the revenge of the geek girl themes.

So looking forward to this new Lisbeth title,

This book was definitely worth all of the hype. It's slow to start, but once the mystery gets going I was glued to the page. Lots of unexpected twists and turns. Blomkvist isn't a terribly complex character, but I liked him well enough. Salander, on the other hand, is a very complex character. The details of Swedish life provide a fascinating backdrop. Overall, I thought the book was unique and gripping. I'm definitely going to read the next two.

Oh yes, and there is a fair amount of extremely graphic and disturbing violence in this book. Larsson was trying to make a point about violence against women, so it's not purely gratuitous, but those parts did bother me.

I did not enjoy this book. The narrative was boring and long winded. It could have benefited from a better editor. I also felt it was unnecessarily violent, but that's just a personal opinion. This book does not try to be enjoyable. It is simply laying out a story for better or worse, and continually goes on side rants that slow it down even more. Somehow, it is still better than the movie.

“Friendship- my definition- is built on two things. Respect and trust. Both elements have to be there. And it has to be mutual. You can have respect for someone, but if you don't have trust, the friendship will crumble.”

I’ve had many enemies over the years. If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s never engage in a fight you’re sure to lose. On the other hand, never let anyone who has insulted you get away with it. Bide your time and strike back when you’re in a position of strength—even if you no longer need to strike back.

Fascinating story. Well written.
I found this book riveting, Entertaining and a great read.
Even though parts are not for the squeamish. And the end is a little anticlimactic. I would put this on My highly recommend list.
