3.0 stars. I'm surprised that 7 books into this series and I'm not into the characters at all! Why do I keep going? I'm invested and the series does have great moments. The last 1/4th of every book (except #1) is awesome or exciting. But the main characters... WHY does Jenks need to swear about Tink EVERY TIME HE OPENS HIS MOUTH? i.e. "Tink's tampon's", "Tink's panties", "Tink's snickers", and the worst "Tink's a Disney whore"...E-NOUGH! It's not funny; it's stupid. Sometimes Jenks comes up with amusing comments but I don't find him funny at...all!

Ivy...same issues (almost) with Rachel which is getting boring but yes I sympathize with her issues.

Rachel...progress is slow with her character. I feel for her struggles but her big mouth STILL gets her in trouble. Screaming at a banshee (at the end of the book)...stupid death-wish. She often gets saved by some dumb luck instead of wit. In fact part of a reader's suspense throughout (imo) is that we are scared she's going to do something dangerously stupid! Rachel remains true to her character so "she is what she is"... I just wish for some more progressive character development so I can relate to her more. I know...every heroine can't be Kate Daniels! I think KH likes to be different. Is Rachel more "real" because of her faults/insecurities? Perhaps.

Although this is a pretty good series each book is about 500 pages. With the time I've invested (I wish I was a speed reader) at this point I'm impatient to get some closure...SOON. I better get some in book 9 which I expect I'm gonna like. Wish I could skip #8.

Harrison again gives us an interesting mystery/thriller. She wraps up the Kisten storyline, but quickly moves us onto Rachel's next love interest. Harrison is not afraid to mess up her characters lives and ramp up the emotional angst. Good read.

Another in the Hollows series. Surprising revelations in this series that keeps the reader on edge. Harrison hasn't disappointed yet, and continues to surprise with each new release. I am always awaiting what she will put out next.

Another good romp with Rachel and her "family", Jenks the pixie, and Ivy the living vampire. This story really depended a lot on the reader already knowing who the characters are, And there were quite a few in the mix.Tthat made them difficult to keep track of. Towards the end I often found myself wondering who a name referred to, I was more certain of the names of characters from previous books, than the ones I had met in this one, Rachel is still an action heroine, and I hope she stays that way-the situations she gets into, and her interactions with others are always hugely entertaining.
A couple of long introspective periods bogged the story down without shedding enough light on the characters. The scene in the hospital childrens ward was great, it did help explain Rachel and Ivy's motives and outlooks.
I felt like the reader was left dangling with Jenk's dilemma over Matalina (his wife) since it had cropped up big in the early part of the story,

I enjoyed this audiobook but for me, the book didn't start getting good until Al showed up. After the way the last book ended I thought we were going to see a lot more of Al and Rachael's demon abilities. What actually happended every saturday in the everafter? I like Pierce and I like the idea that he is rather naughty when dealing with demons. Not stupid like Nick. I hope this combined with the whole shunned thing will open the next book up to Rachael the Demon rather than Rachael the whiny crybaby indecisive tease that she has been. though I do hope the shunning is removed as it is not fair to do that to her.

I just love Bis and I want to see more of his character develop. I Jenks and his off the way Tinks something or other way of swearing " Tinks panties"!

Trent. I don't know why I like this character but I do. I think he makes a good ally and a great villain all at the same time. He was sorely missing from this book. I find myself almost hoping for them to get together. I'm holding out hope yet that Trent can see with Rachels help he can accomplish saving his race without needing to kill people and they can find a happy ever after.

My favorite characters are Bis, Al, Trent, Jenks and his entire family. There were not enough of any of them in this book.

To understand this book better you should read Holidays are Hell short story Two Ghost for Sister Rachel for some background on Pierce and Hotter than Hell short story Dirty Magic for the background on Mia. It will help this story to make more sense.
