When Matt moves to his new house, he begins building an imaginary land out of the gray, soggy field in his backyard and is helped by a little girl who brings him popsicle sticks and colourful bits of tile. When a rainstorm threatens to destroy everything they have created, help arrives in a most welcome way.

This is an especially good story for anyone who is moving - it's about a child who is new to a neighbourhood, and the world he creates for himself and the new friends he makes as children join him and join in the game. I love Dusan Petricic's work so wanted to borrow this book for the illustrations alone - but the story is lovely too.

This is a perfect time of year to read Mattland. The students enjoyed making their own "Mattlands" in the muddy yard after reading the book.

Matt's land was made from mud. I think that is cool. (Adelaide--age 6)

Our school library has not received a copy of this book yet. Either has the school in a neighboring town! I hope it comes in before voting is done!
