I recall reading this strip occasionally when I was a child in the 1980s. However, the war comic magazine it appeared in, 'Battle', only appeared infrequently in my local bookshops and newsagents. Now I get to read the strips in their totality in this collection, of which this is the first volume. As an adult, I can appreciate the anti-war themes better and recognize just how brave it was to present war in its grim realities in such a way in such a context. The art is amazingly detailed and the accompanying articles, including a strip commentary by the writer, Pat Mills, are also excellent.
