I've told you. She was trapped inside the mind of a maniac when he died. She wasn't strong enough to pull herself completely free of that psychic backwash of energy.

Cassie sighed. "It's so difficult for most people to believe that it's just another sense, like sight or hearning. That THEY don't have it because nothing in their genetic makeup or experience triggered that part of their brain to begin working instead of lying dormant. I have black hair and gray eyes and psychic ability. All perfectly normal for me, all handed down in my family for generations. If they could just undersand there's nothing magical about it."

I liked this one. It flows well, the suspense is there, the crime worth fighting against, the characters likable—except those that aren't—and the psychic stuff really blends in quite well. Also, I've been reading these out of order, but it doesn't seem to matter, except for where Bishop is in his life.

Working with the police to catch the violent criminals Cassie Neill can psychically connect with had been destroying her bit by bit. When a child dies, Cassie runs almost half-way accross the country to escape from the pain that her gifts leave her with. But murder happens even in small towns, and when she's drawn into the killer's mind, Cassie knows she has to help again...and that she won't have time to recover until he strikes again.
