My granddaughter (6) loves this story, and so do I. I read it to her via Skype, and tomorrow she'll get it from her library and read it to me. She'll also pick up the sequel.

Such picture books work as well as easy readers -- and often have more engaging stories, and richer vocabularies.

PS. My best dog ever lived with 6 cats before we got him. To my amazed delight, I never had to clean up after him. He buried his business, same as a cat.
